January 29, 2026 14th-Ranked Christopher Newport Holds Off UC Santa Cruz, 71-64, for Ninth Straight Victory Christopher Newport University opened a 17-point second half lead Thursday night over UC Santa Cruz, but then had to hold off the Banana Slugs down the stretch to record a 71-64 victory at the Freeman Center. The win in the battle of Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference members was the ninth straight for the Captains, and the 16th in the last 17 games for John Krikorian's squad. Junior Toa Hollenbeck led the way for CNU, scoring 21 points, with 18 coming in the second half. Junior Zyir Baskerville (13), senior Collin Hines (12), and junior Tyson Henderson (10) also reached double digits in the scoring column for the Captains, who improved to 17-3 on the season.
January 18, 2026 Toa Hollenbeck Scores Career-High 32 Points to Lead CNU to Eighth Straight Victory Junior Toa Hollenbeck registered a new career high Sunday, scoring 32 points while leading Christopher Newport University to a 93-88 victory over the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The victory was the eighth straight for the 17th-ranked Captains, and the 15th in their last 16 games. John Krikorian's squad is now 16-3 on the season. Hollenbeck, who went over the 1,000-point mark for his career earlier this month, scored 21 of his 32 in the opening half as CNU opened a 46-34 lead at the intermission. The Chesapeake, Va., native knocked down all five of his three-point attempts in the first half and finished the game six-of-seven from long range. Hollenbeck passed his previous high of 30 points scored vs. John Jay in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament last March.  Senior Collin Hines scored 15 points, and juniors Zyir Baskerville and Tyson Henderson also reached double figures for Christopher Newport with 13 points each.
January 17, 2026 17th-Ranked Captains Win Seventh Straight With 61-59 Triumph over ETBU  Christopher Newport University upped its record to 15-3 Saturday with a 61-59 home victory over East Texas Baptist University at the Freeman Center. The 17th-ranked Captains have now won 14 of their last 15 games, and have won seven straight games for the second time this season. Junior Zyir Baskerville came off the bench to lead the Captains in scoring with 16 points. He was joined in double figures by senior Collin Hines, who scored ten.
January 7, 2026 20th-Ranked Christopher Newport Holds Off 24th-Ranked Johns Hopkins, 68-65 The lead exchanged hands 20 times Wednesday night as Christopher Newport University and Johns Hopkins University staged an epic Top 25 showdown at the Freeman Center. When the dust settled, the Captains, ranked 20th in the nation, held off the 24th-ranked Blue Jays, 68-65, improving to 14-3 on the season. The triumph was the sixth straight for John Krikorian's squad, and the 13th in the last 14 games for CNU. Junior Toa Hollenbeck led the way for Christopher Newport, scoring 18 points with 11 coming in the second half. Senior Collin Hines and junior Ryan Derderian each logged ten points as the Captains upped their home record this season to 7-1.
January 3, 2026 Christopher Newport Wins Fifth Straight Game as Defense Leads Captains over Stockton, 77-57 Christopher Newport University used an outstanding second half defensive effort to cruise past Stockton University, 77-57, Saturday afternoon in the Stockton Classic. The victory was the fifth straight for the Captains and 12th in the last 13 games, as John Krikorian's squad improved to 13-3 on the season. The Ospreys fell to 6-6 with their first home loss at the Sports Center on the Stockton campus in five games this season. CNU held Stockton to just 23 points in the second half, and the Ospreys were able to make just seven-of-29 shots after halftime and just one three-pointer in 12 attempts. Junior Toa Hollenbeck led the Christopher Newport offensive effort, scoring 25 points while converting all ten of his free throw attempts.Junior big man Ethan Ward also reached double figures in scoring with 12 points, making all four of his shots from the field and all four from the line.
January 2, 2026 Toa Hollenbeck Records 1,000th Career Point as Christopher Newport Defeats Rowan, 64-58 Christopher Newport University opened 2026 by holding off the Profs of Rowan University, 64-58, Friday at the Stockton University Classic. Junior Toa Hollenebck led the way for CNU with 19 points, surpassing the 1,000-point mark for his career and becoming the 35th player in CNU history to reach the plateau. Junior Tyson Henderson scored 15 points and freshman Tyler Sprague also reached double digits wih ten points as the Captains improved to 12-3, while the Profs fell to 2-9 on the year.
